In addition to the Curriculum Council, there has been a district commitment to the development of Professional Learning Communities. In these communities teachers are committed to working collaboratively and to the sharing of ideas. Teachers discuss both formative and summative assessments which check for student learning. The end result of this collaborative work is the use of highly effective teaching strategies which lead to increased student learning. |

Instructional Coaches assist Classroom Teachers
An instructional coach works as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning. The coach focuses on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding about researched-based effective instruction. In order to meet this purpose, the coach provides personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers.
