Olivet Football Recipient of Sportsmanship Award
In November, Olivet High School was a finalist in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Football Playoffs. Today, the team and community are receiving another special honor. The MHSAA and Olivet High School believe if we do not make the educated choice to have good sportsmanship at our events, we do not have a program worth promoting and protecting. That is why the MHSAA has so vigorously worked in recent years to describe and demand the highest standards of sportsmanship for high schools anywhere in the United States, and has been joined so generously in this effort by the MEEMIC Insurance Company.
During the Football Finals, a committee observed the coaches, players, other students and spectators—and determined that Olivet High School and this community were the most deserving of the “Good Sports Are Winners” sportsmanship award.
Fred Smith, Athletic Director of Buchanan High School and a member of the MHSAA Representative Council, presented Coach Dean Peters, his staff and team with a glass trophy celebrating the award and to thank the fans of Olivet High School for making high school athletics something to be proud of. Ellen Masco of the Fisk Insurance Agency in Charlotte, MI, a MEEMIC agent, presented the Olivet Football Team with a commemorative banner, further recognizing the outstanding sportsmanship Olivet High School and its fans showed at the Football Finals at Ford Field.
