Michael Flood Assumes Leadership Role at OMS

Olivet Middle School has a new Interim Principal, Michael Flood. Mr. Flood has worked at Olivet Community Schools for the past 14 years as a teacher, most recently as a 5th grade teacher.  Mr. Flood received a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University and attended Spring Arbor College receiving an elementary education certificate in June 1996. He and his wife Marj, who is an emergency room nurse at Sparrow Hospital, live in the Lansing area. Mr. Flood enjoys playing hockey, is an avid cyclist and has been to Europe cycling. He also enjoys mountain climbing. He recently went to Colorado with Mr. Spoelstra (OMS Physical Education teacher) and his son Hayden to hike and climb, and says his “greatest achievement was climbing Mt. McKinley in Alaska.”

For the remainder of the school year, Katie Hydon will step into Mr. Flood’s classroom as a long term substitute beginning November 30th.  Ms. Hydon completed her student teaching here at Olivet Middle School, has completed a long-term subbing assignment and is willing, able and ready to take on this responsibility. Mr. Flood will be working closely with Ms. Hydon to ensure that his students will continue to be academically challenged and meet his expectations.

Please help us welcome Mr. Flood into his new role as the Interim Principal. We have no doubt he will be a fine leader at Olivet Middle School. In the meantime, the Board of Education will continue to prepare for the upcoming Superintendent Search with the help of MASB (Michigan Association of School Boards) and will decide at a future date the plans to fill this position.
